African Union Commission Hosts the Pan African University Education Days in Cameroon
The Department of the African Union Commission in charge of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) organizes the Pan African University Education Days from 30 to 31st July 2024 at the Yaoundé Conference Centre, in Cameroon.
This event is initiated to commemorate the Year on Education, endorsed and launched as the 2024 AU Theme of the Year by AU Heads of State and Government during their 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, under the main topic “Educate an Africa fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa”.
In implementing the 2024 AU Theme of the year, the Pan African University (PAU) Education Days therefore stage as a means to highlight the significant role played by higher education, in breeding talents needed to shape the Africa we want as envisioned in Agenda 2063.
Top-ranking institutions attending this upcoming event include the AU Department in charge of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Government of the Republic of Cameroon through a number of public administrations, the African Development Bank, the European Union Commission, Diplomatic Missions of AU Member States hosting PAU Institutes, key strategic partners supporting the Pan African University, the PAU community at large, just to name these few.
The Year on Education provides a suitable space for education champions to demand more investments for the advancement of the education agenda, especially towards the achievements of CESA 16-25 and SDG4 targets.
For the Pan African University, is currently in its consolidation phase after an over decade-long launching phase, the two-day event is a strategic moment to disseminate its mandate and achievements, and to ponder on its most pressing challenges in the years ahead.
The Pan African University is the flagship academic institution of the African Union. It was created by decision of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, during its 15th Ordinary Session in July 2010 in Kampala Uganda (Assembly/AU/Dec.290 (XV). Composed of five thematic institutes hosted in the five geographical areas of the continent, it aims at producing world class human resources through high-quality postgraduate education and research to drive the development imperatives of the continent to meet the aspirations of Agenda 2063. 26 M.Sc./M.A. and 11 Ph.D. programmes are offered in key development areas, some of them proposed by AU Member States, and others either by Regional Economic Communities or the AUC Departments.
